Good News about Tori's Fifth Grade Graduation
Congratulations Tori from your Granny.
Yesterday afternoon was a ballroom dance competition that Tori LaFon and her
partner have been practicing for all year. They wore matching outfits
and looked really good on the dance floor. They competed in three
divisions, waltz, foxtrot and rumba, and they won two and got a third
in the other! They were up against six to ten couples in each
division.They were very proud.
Last night was Tori's fifth grade graduation. The school had a nice
program with speakers from the community and from the class.
Ninety-three fifth graders graduated. They gave out awards for various
honors and Tori cleaned up. Out of ninety three children, she received
the awards for:
Overall High Honors for the 07-08 Academic Year
Academic Excellence in Language Arts
Academic Excellence in Social Studies
Academic Excellence in Media Arts ( She researched & built a 1/25
scale replica of the International Space station with no help, plus
other projects)
Academic Excellence in Visual Arts (She edited the yearbook and
produced the end of the the year video for the school)
Smoky Mountain Student Storytelling Showcase blue ribbon and an
invitation to the National Competition (She competed in March)
Highest Comprehensive Reading Level
A medal for most achieved writer
A plaque for "Reader of the Year" from the Celebrate Literacy
Program (for the highest comprehension at the highest reading level in
the school)
A plaque for Safety Patrol of the Year
Excellence in Beaumont Dance works (The competitive/show dance team)
Pretty amazing. Afterward, many of the parents congratulated her and
said things like "Wow, you already finished your college entry
resume!" and "Do you need a trailer to haul your awards home?" She
won over half of the awards they gave out. She was very proud of
herself. I took them out to dinner and gave Tori her luggage as a
gift. Written by Lynda LaFon
